Mt. Sterling Public Library plans events

Upcoming events at the Mt. Sterling Public Library:
Closed — The library will be closed on the following holidays: Christmas Eve day, Dec. 24, Christmas day, Dec. 25, New Years Eve day, Dec. 31, and New Years day, Jan. 1.
Museum hours — The Mt. Sterling Community Museum is open with new hours. The new director is Steve Chambers. Hours open to the public are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on alternating Fridays and Saturdays. They are: Friday, Dec. 20; and Friday, Dec. 27. Storytime — Regular storytime is being held at 10:30 a.m. on Mondays. It is a program for preschool aged children, 3-5 years old. A fun story and relatable craft hour is held every Monday except federal holidays, or when there is a school delay or cancellation. Due to the school holiday schedules, there will be no Storytime on Monday, Dec. 23, and Monday, Dec. 30. January’s schedule is as follows: Friday, Jan. 6, snowmen at night, Friday, Jan. 13, hat day, and Friday, Jan. 27, music/kazoo day.
Friends of the Library — Friends of the Library will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 14 in the library community room. It is open for new members. There are no membership fees.
Board of Directors — The Board of Directors will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 16 in the library community room. Meetings are open to the public. Anyone interested in the decision making for the museum and library is encouraged to attend.
Ladies Night Out — There will be no December Ladies Night Out event. The next meeting will be on Monday, Jan. 27 to enjoy a potluck event with coffee, water, soda, and popcorn provided. No pre-registration is required. This event is free and open to adult women of all ages. They meet the last Monday of each month to view a recently released movie on the big screen.
Around Town Book Club — Join the Around Town Book Club at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 30. The location to be announced. January’s book of the month is “Girl of the Limberlost” by Gene Porter Stratton. Copies are available for check out at the library. No pre-registration required. This event is free and open to adults of all ages. They meet the last Thursday of each month for a lively discussion.
Hours of operation — The new hours of operation are as follows: Mondays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesdays, noon to 7 p.m.; Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays, noon to 7 p.m.; Fridays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Saturdays, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.; and closed on Sundays.
Bookmobile — The bookmobile will be traveling weekly through the Mt. Sterling Public Library’s service area. The schedule open to the public is as follows:
Tuesdays — Range Township Hall (fire department), 2-3 p.m; and at the Mt. Sterling Community Center, 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Wednesdays — Madison-Plains High School, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.; and South Solon Grace Church 2-4 p.m.
Alternating Fridays — Meadowview, 10-11 a.m. on Dec. 20.
All stops listed above will be open to the public. Additional stops not listed are not open to the public. All residents in the service area are invited to visit the bookmobile at any of the listed locations to check out a variety of items. Children ages 5-18 years old are eligible for a library card with a parent or guardian present to sign up. Adults must have a government issued picture ID on hand.
Mt. Sterling Block Watch Committee — The Mt. Sterling Block Watch Committee will be held on the first and third Tuesdays at 7 p.m. in the library community room. See their Facebook page for more details.
Volunteer opportunities — Looking for something to do with your spare time? Need volunteer or community service hours for work, school, your club or just want to get out of the house? The library has many volunteer opportunities. Adults and teens 15 and up may pick up a volunteer application at the Mt. Sterling Public Library, where your volunteerism is appreciated, necessary and vital to the community.
