Monday night’s Dairy Show had a slight change in structure from what it was in past years. Rather than breaking up the 4-H classes and Open classes to different nights, both all-breed shows ran together. The change was done in an effort to expedite the process and allow all awards to be given in one setting.
The judge for the evening was Matt Griffith of Hillsboro. Griffith is the FFA advisor for the East Clinton High School FFA Chapter and has judged shows all over the state of Ohio as well as shows in Kentucky and Indiana.
Among the night’s biggest winners were Alexandra Runyon, Olivia and Lillian Finke and Reese Schrock.
Runyon, 18, started the night by taking first in her showmanship classes, 4-H Senior Showmanship and Open Senior Showmanship, ages 15-19. She then took second in the Dairy Showman of Showmen. In the 4-H Holstein Spring Heifer Calf Class, Runyon then took first with her calf, Oakvale Sid Costa Caribe and first in the 4-H Holstein Aged Cow class with Red Carpet BRX Twitter=ET. The cow also helped Runyon win her final award for the night, 4-H Holstein Senior/Grand Champion.
Olivia Finke, 12, also took top honors Monday night. She started by winning first in the 4-H Intermediate Showmanship and continued through the evening by taking first and second — depending on the class — in Open Intermediate Showmanship, ages 12-14, Showman of Showmen, 4-H Holstein Spring Heifer Calf, Open Holstein Spring Heifer Calf, 4-H Holstein Winter Calf, 4-H Holstein Junior Champion, Open Holstein Junior Champion, 4-H Holstein Junior 2-year-old Cow, Open Holstein 2-year-old Cow and 4-H and Open Holstein Aged Cow.
