Clock tower dome getting facelift

Due to heavy rains through the summer, that Madison County is receiving some emergency repairs to prevent leaks and further weatherproof the Madison County Courthouse building is being done.

Starting Monday, workers from London-based Allstate Exteriors are currently repainting and painting a seal-coat on the dome of the clock tower, both restoring it to it’s historic copper color and also weather proofing the structure. To get up to the top, workers are using cherry-pickers and other lift equipment, hence the need to close the street.

“The project is ongoing,” said County Administrator Rob Slane. “We’ve had some leaks in the court room among others so we’re trying to prevent that.

Currently, London’s North Main Street will be closed from the intersection of High Street to Fourth Street, running parallel to the county courthouse until Thursday.

Slane said he was unaware when the full repairs would be finished, but mentioned other projects to weatherproof the masonry and other aspects of the building. These would likely not need further street closings.
