Gary Brock has been named General Manager and Editor of The Madison Press.
Regional VP Ohio East Lane Moon said Brock, who is editor of Civitas Media’s monthly farming and agriculture publication Rural Life Today, began his duties on Monday.
“Gary brings years of publishing experience to The Madison Press. He understands the value of strong local news coverage and its importance to the local community,” Moon said.
Brock began his career in media as a reporter with the Xenia Daily Gazette. Since then, he has been managing editor at the Xenia Gazette, managing editor at the Lancaster Eagle-Gazette and publisher-editor at the Record-Herald in Washington Court House from 2003 until starting with Rural Life Today as editor in 2013. Brock will continue in his role as editor of Rural Life.
In his career, he has received 24 Ohio Associated Press awards for news writing, including eight first-place awards for editorial page and column writing and investigative reporting; awards from the Ohio Society of Professional Journalists for Best Editorial Campaign and Best Columnist in Ohio; and first place as Best Editorial Writer by Thomson Newspapers in 2001.
He is also the former president of the Ohio Associated Press Society of Ohio; presently serves as the Fayette County trustee on the South Central Goodwill Industries Board of Trustees; is president-elect of the Washington Kiwanis Club and is a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau and the North American Agricultural Journalists Association. A graduate of Wright State University, he has also taught media and journalism at Wilberforce University for five years.
