Do you remember 4-H camp with fond memories? Line dancing on the blacktop? Late night stories in the cabin? Burning embers of campfire? Candlelighting? How about singing in the dining hall, at campfire, in the rec hall, in the pool, in the showers — well, everywhere. Can you think of anything that you learned at camp? Some craft, a nature fact, how to cook a hobo pack, archery? How about those friends made at camp? Are you still in touch? Maybe you haven’t seen them for a long time. Well, here’s your opportunity to see old friends and share memories from camp.
4-H camp counselors who attended camp any time, but particularly between 1977 and 1994, are invited to participate in a reunion at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, in the London area. It will include a potluck supper, reminiscing about times shared at 4-H Camp Clifton, a campfire, and maybe even a little recreation of skits, songs, and stories.
There will be music and dancing to camp line dances and mixers. Swimming in the pond is available. Children are welcome. Those attending are invited to camp overnight or just come for the evening.
Former 4-H agent, Niki Nestor McNeely, will be in attendance. She started her 4-H professional career in Madison County in November 1976 and worked in London until her move to the 4-H agent position in Warren County in March 1985. She always loved 4-H camp and is looking forward to seeing former counselors and campers. Other former extension staff have been invited.
4-H counselors are asked to get in touch with former 4-H camp friends. There is a wide spectrum of years and some of the early counselors during her tenure were counselors for campers who later became counselors. Former 4-H parents, volunteers, staff, campers and friends of 4-H who would like to visit with McNeely and others who attended camp are welcome to attend. The greater success of this event is dependent on counselors contacting their friends from awhile ago by email, Facebook, phone, or through relatives still in the area.
