President Sylvia Hildreth opened the meeting of the Fayette/Madison Counties Ohio Public Employees Retirees Inc. (OPERI) with the Pledge of Allegiance. She then introduced 12 individuals who were attending for the first time. There were 34 people present.

Hildreth introduced the speaker, Kendra Burford from the Ohio Senior Health Information Program (OSHIP), the senior part of the Ohio Department of Insurance. She stressed that they are always available at 1-800-686-1578. She also explained that the choices we will have when the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System (OPERS) insurance plan changes in 2016 will be the Medicare Supplement Plan or a Medicare Advantage Plan. She pointed out the advantages of each plan.

The secretary’s report was read by Patty Barton due to the absence of Jeanne Immell. Barton also gave the treasurer’s report due to the absence of Marilee Peterson. She reported the group now has 25 members. Both reports were accepted as read.

When asked for a legislative report, Jim Essman said the legislature is now on recess. Members added their information to the call list.

Hildreth told those present to make reservations to attend the informational seminar at the Chillicothe Christopher Inn Conference Center Wednesday, Aug. 27.

District Representative Boots Sheets spoke regarding the health care changes. He told the group not to make changes now but to wait and stay informed. He believes retirees will be satisfied with the coverage offered in 2016.

Hildreth read a letter from Sharon Downs seeking support from the group in her run for office.

The meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 24.
