POINT PLEASANT — August is just around the corner and in Mason County, that means it’s nearly fair time.
This year, the Mason County Fair, known for booking well known acts, has come through again with entertainment for everyone performing on the main stage Aug. 5-9. Monday Aug. 4, the main stage is home to the popular Mason County Fair Queen Contest which starts at 8 p.m.
As for this year’s entertainers, one of the biggest names in county music, John Michael Montgomery, will be headlining the fair on its closing night at 9 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 9. Montgomery has sold over 16 million albums, had 15 number one singles, won four ACM awards, three CMA awards, one American Music Award, multiple Billboard Music Awards including, top single, top country artist, top male artist and has received two Grammy nominations.
“We have one of the biggest names in the music industry to close out the fair,” Brian Billings, chairman of the fair’s entertainment committee said. “We are so excited to have Montgomery as part of our lineup. His fan base is very strong in this area and we are looking forward to a big crowd on Saturday of the fair.”
In addition to Montgomery, on Tuesday night, Aug. 5, a night traditionally dedicated to gospel music, the Ball Brothers will take the main stage at 9 p.m. Since the formation of the group in 2006, the Ball Brothers have rapidly made their mark in Christian music by finding a musical balance between old and new. Their goal is to spread the message of the gospel and encourage believers, according to Billings.
“These guys will appeal to any age or any audience that loves great gospel music,” Billings said. “The Ball Brothers won the 2011 Singing News ‘Horizon Group of the Year.’”
On Wednesday, Aug. 6, fair goers should be prepared to “Walk This Way” to the main stage at 9 p.m. to see Draw The Line, an Aerosmith tribute band.
“The Mason County Fair is thrilled to bring the nation’s hottest Aerosmith tribute band to the fair,” Billings said. “In a past interview, Aerosmith singer Steven Tyler singled out Draw The Line as the best of the Aerosmith tribute bands. Draw The Line’s lead singer, Neill, Byrnes, won a Steven Tyler lookalike contest on one of Boston’s biggest rock stations.”
Then on Thursday, Aug. 7, Eric Paslay takes the main stage at 9 p.m. Paslay, is a performer as well as songwriter, he co-wrote Jake Owen’s “Barefoot Blue Jean Night”, Eli Young Band’s “Even If It Breaks Your Heart”, and Love and Theft’s “Angel Eyes”, all of which were number one hits on the coutry charts. Paslay also wrote and co-wrote album cuts for Lady Antebellum and Rascal Flatts’ 2014 single “Rewind.”
“Since the signing of Paslay, the Mason County Fair Board has had so many calls and comments on this Nashville singer songwriter,” Billings said. “We are thrilled to have Eric Paslay grace the stage during our fair week. So many have called and asked about the day, time, etc. as to when Paslay will appear. So many great songs have kept his name in the forefront of country music.”
On Friday, Aug. 8, country music hit maker Steve Holy takes the main stage at 9 p.m.
“A very talented but smooth entertainer who keeps his fans wanting to hear more,” Billings said of Holy. “His big hit, ‘Good Morning Beautiful’ is still a country music favorite, along with ‘Brand New Girlfriend,’ a former hit as well.”
