Investigators from the London Police Department and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation are awaiting autopsy results on the body of a woman found dead in her Elm Street apartment.

Officer Greg Perkins said a mental health caseworker discovered the body of Laura Bidwell, 58, about 3:20 p.m. Thursday while conducting a welfare check at apartment 8-A in the Devonshire complex, 198 Elm St.

It appeared the woman had been dead 2 to 6 days. Neighbors reported last seeing Bidwell on July 12-14, Perkins said.

The caseworker went to check on Bidwell after she failed to show up for counseling sessions at a local facility.

The Montgomery County Coroner’s Office conducted a preliminary autopsy on Friday.

“We are waiting on a determination of the cause of death,” Perkins said.

Depending on tests performed, results could come in days or weeks, he added.

Assistant Madison County Prosecutor Nick Adkins said it appeared Bidwell fell and struck her head.

The incident remains under investigation.
