London City Schools Board of Education approved ballot language on Tuesday for renewal of a 1 percent income tax in November.


Aug. 6 is the filing deadline at the Madison County Board of Elections.


According to a resolution to proceed with the levy, the five-year income tax is expected to raise an additional $3,200,000 annually, beginning Jan. 1, 2016.


The current 1 percent tax will expire at the end of 2015.


Superintendent Tom Ben said an London High School alumnus recently offered to produce a video in support of the levy campaign.


Also on Tuesday, curriculum director Gayle Reidenbach reported two London third-grade students and one fourth grader received perfect scores on the 2013-14 Ohio Assessment Achievement tests. She said letters will go out to parents this week, noting the achievement.


Reidenbach also said summer school attendance increased this year.


Twenty-one third grade students attended special reading classes. Five took the OAA test; one passed an alternative test.


Nine high school students attended an algebra class before passing a final test. Twenty-eight passed the Ohio Graduation Test, after attending a preparation class. Twenty-five high schoolers passed a special physical education course, Reidenbach said.


Ben said new metal light poles at Bowlus Field are slated for installation on July 17. Workers recently removed temporary wooden poles from the facility. Those poles were donated to the London Parks & Recreation Department.


Ben said the new lights must undergo 50 continuous hours of testing prior to the first football game in August.
