Madison Press staff writer Dean Shipley was recently awarded a silver medallion in the International Automotive Media Award (IAMA) held recently in Detroit.

The award was bestowed on his story on Pat Flannery Stephens’ growing number of appearances at car club meets and nostalgia drag racing events. Flannery Stephens was the first Miss Hurst Golden Shifter, a product promotional position with Hurst Performance Products she held in 1965.

Flannery Stephens now resides in South Vienna.

“It’s an honor,” Shipley said of the award. “Particularly since the judging panel is made up of automotive journalists. They respect what I do in the automotive vein for The Madison Press.”

Awards were presented in an informal setting Friday, June 27 in Venetta’s Garage, an automotive-themed restaurant on Woodward Avenue in Berkley, a suburb of Detroit.

Since 2008, Shipley has been awarded one gold and three silver awards for automotive-themed stories for The Madison Press.
