The July 4 party at Andy Hershberger’s house north of Plain City is cancelled.
A fast-moving wind storm ripped Hershberger’s garage from his two-story home at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday and scattered siding and debris across the Darby Boulevard West subdivision.
“The wind picked up, then I heard a boom,” Hershberger said.
By the time Hershberger and his wife were out of bed and headed for the basement, it was all over.
“It wasn’t even raining by then,” he said.
The storm cut a swath about 60 feet wide, taking down trees and a few structures in its path.
“Nobody was hurt,” Hershberger said. “It was a blessing.”
A car in Hershberger’s garage had only moderate damage.
The area lost electric power for a few hours, but resumed about 6:30 a.m., he said.
Hershberger expressed gratitude to Union County Rural Electric for prompt repair service.
The only casualty of the storm was the annual Independence Day cookout in Hershberger’s back yard.
