Madison-Plains teacher Mary Sims, and staff member Brian Garrett received I Make a Difference awards pn Friday, Aug. 22. They were tops among a field of a dozen nominees for the annual honor in the school district.
Madison-Plains teacher Mary Sims, and staff member Brian Garrett received I Make a Difference awards pn Friday, Aug. 22. They were tops among a field of a dozen nominees for the annual honor in the school district.

Madison-Plains teacher Mary Sims, and staff member Brian Garrett received I Make a Difference awards on Friday, Aug. 22 during an employee recognition breakfast.


The two were tops among a field of a dozen nominees for the annual honor in the school district.


Sims researches methods to help struggling students and is described as a model co-teacher. She is a volunteer mentor.


Garrett, always smiling, does the little things in support of the staff. He’s polite, meticulous in his work and mentors students.


Additional nominees for the I Make A Difference award were: Linda Wood, Laura Vallery, Leslie Reisinger, Pam Kelly, Rochelle Kimbler, Lynette Ridenour, David Emmons, Klaudia Dodge, Joanie Boyle and Rachel Thompson.


Other awards included:


• Retirees — Barbara Warren, Lynn Payne


• Years of service: 20 years, Tammy Pitstick and Carrie Wallner; 10 years, Bridget Aucter, Diane Halloran, Terry Curry and Cathy Siders.


• Dedication award (employees who did not use any vacation, sick leave or personal days during the school year): teachers: Will Pratt and David Emmons; bus drivers: Teresa Brown, Sally Curry, Cliff Hill, Clarice Kitchen, Georgia Mercer, Becky Rheinscheld, Shelly Violet and Linda Wood; aide Pam Cutlip.
