A West Jefferson youth was taken to Nationwide Childrens’ Hospital, following a van-bicycle crash in the village on Wednesday. His condition was unknown.

Officer Mallory Wise said the boy, approximately 9 years old, was biking west on West Pearl Street just after 6 p.m. when he failed to heed a stop sign at the intersection of South Twin Street.

A Dodge van driven by Penny Bailey, that was southbound on Twin Street, struck the youth. Wise noted there’s no traffic signal on Twin Street.

Neither the juvenile nor Bailey were cited.

Wise said the boy learned a “good lesson in bicycle safety.”
