Jonathan Alder Junior High’s new principal is Plain City resident J. Clint Hayes, 36.
Board of education members hired Hayes at a special, early morning meeting on Monday.
Hayes replaces Chris Piper, who resigned in June to become superintendent of Triad Local Schools in Champaign County.
Most recently, Hayes was assistant principal at London Middle School for two years. He also served as Alder’s junior varsity baseball coach in 2008.
London administrators Carol Daniels, Adelle Faulkner and Gayle Reidenbach recommended Hayes for the new position.
Alder superintendent Gary Chapman said he received 30 applicants for the junior high principal’s job. A committee of faculty, administrators and parents interviewed six semi-finalists.
Both Hayes and Matthew Gallatin, who previously taught at Dublin City and Northeastern (Clark County) schools, were finalists.
Chapman said Hayes’ selection followed three rounds of interviews.
Hayes graduated from Cedarville University in 2000 with a bachelor’s degree in physical education. He holds advanced degrees in teaching and leadership from Marygrove College in Detroit and Concordia University in Chicago.
Also on Monday, Alder school board members approved an overnight lock-in for members of the high school volleyball team on July 31-Aug. 1.
The next regular Alder school board meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 11.
