A 51-year-old Columbus woman killed in a murder/suicide this week was a London native.
Kathy Malone Shonkwiler and boyfriend Troy Stone, 46, were found dead inside their south side home on July 22. Authorities believe Stone shot Shonkwiler before taking his own life.
Shonkwiler’s obituary appeared in Thursday’s Press. It noted she was born in London in 1963 to Jerry and Barbara Malone.
Brother Jerry Malone still lives in the city. Shonkwiler’s son, Joshua Fout, and his family live in Mount Sterling.
Shonkwiler’s funeral is set for Eberle-Fisher Funeral Home And Crematory in London on Saturday.
Published reports said Fout called 911 on Tuesday to tell a dispatcher that he was unable to get a response after banging on the door of his mother’s house. Fout checked the home when his mother failed to show up at work and didn’t call in.
Officers responded to Fout’s 911 call and found the couple dead.
Shonkwiler’s sister told a Columbus television station Stone was abusive throughout the couple’s 13-year relationship. Shonkwiler left Stone five times, but always returned.
The sister speculated that a recent decision to leave Stone for good may have prompted the man to shoot Shonkwiler and himself.
