“Making it beautiful.” That's how West Jefferson senior Mattie Hall described not only her work of painting a Westwood Park bench on Thursday, but also her fellow seniors. They were deployed to Westwood and Garrette parks to paint items in need thereof, and removal of graffiti from playground equipment. Cole Bare, left, and DJ McAninch painted the basketball backboard at Westwood. Having played in the park their whole lives, they said it was nice to give back. Social studies teacher Jenni Siddiqi said her class brainstormed at the beginning of the year to choose what to do for a service project. The hope is with this project as a start, the students will continue to give back to their communities as they mature.
