Two Jeffersonville women were arrested Wednesday afternoon for alleged illegal drug activity inside of a vehicle near the Huntington Bank parking lot in Washington C.H.
Benee A. Mathias, 36, of 75 N. Main St., Apt. C5, is being held in the Fayette County Jail on charges of possession of drugs, possession of drug abuse instruments, possession of drug paraphernalia, and contempt of court. Amanda J. Chaffin, 33, of 8 Smith St., is also being held in the jail on possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia charges.
At around 2 p.m., Washington C.H. Police Department officers were called to the area of Huntington Bank parking lot in reference to possible drug activity. A probation officer had called Mathias earlier because she reportedly did not show up for her probation meeting.
Officers located the vehicle and made contact with the driver, who was identified as Chaffin. Probation officers removed Mathias from the back seat of the vehicle, according to reports. Mathias was searched and two plastic bags containing suboxone strips were allegedly found on her person.
A red cosmetic bag containing a metal spoon, lighter and two hypodermic needles were found inside the vehicle, according to police. One needle contained a clear liquid.
Police said that Chaffin had a fresh injection mark on her right arm and Mathias had fresh injection marks on both arms.
“Ben Mathias gave a written statement that both females had shot up the heroin as they were heading to the Probation Department,” police said.
