Greenfield man arrested for robbery of gas station
Andrew Staats allegedly brandished weapon, demanded cash from station employees
A Greenfield man was arrested in the early-morning hours Tuesday after law enforcement identified him as the suspect who robbed a Jefferson Street gas station at gunpoint on Monday night, according to information released by Greenfield Police Chief Tim Hester.
On Monday, Dec. 30, 2013 at 9:14 p.m. employees of Flagway 12, located at 203 Jefferson St., reported to police that a male wearing a ski mask had entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded cash.
The employees complied with the suspect, who then fled the store on foot heading eastbound toward Second Street.
Responding officers were able to identify Andrew Staats, 30, of Greenfield, as the suspect based on evidence from the scene, Hester said in the press release.
At 1:14 a.m. officers, along with the Hillsboro/Greenfield Joint SRT team, executed a search warrant at 215 McClain Ave. and located Staats. Items of evidence related to the robbery were also located inside the residence.
Staats was arrested and charged with aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, and taken to the Greenfield jail.
His bond was set at $100,000 cash only and he will appear for arraignment in Highland County Court in Greenfield on Friday, Jan. 3, 2014.
