Jonathan Alder Local Schools recently received a clean bill of financial health and an award from Ohio Auditor of State Dave Yost.

On March 27, Yost’s office announced the district as one of 10 recipients of The Auditor of State Award for “exemplary financial reporting in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles or GAAP.”

An independent auditor’s report found no deficiencies in internal compliance and no evidence of fraud or wrongdoing during the 2013 fiscal year.

Yost’s announcement was good news for district residents and staff.

A year ago, board of education members fired a long-time treasurer Janis Thom after learning of a previously miscalculated revenue deficit. Program cuts and staff layoffs followed as the district struggled to balance its books.

The auditor’s report puts to rest rumors of malfeasance by Thom.

Alder now shares the services of Fairbanks Local Schools Treasurer Aaron Johnson.
