Tolles Career & Technical Center will send 24 students from its business, broadcasting and information technology programs to the Ohio Business Professionals of America (BPA) State Competition in Columbus.

Students from Tolles programs, including Computer Networking and Support Technology, Interactive Media, Marketing and Logistics, the Broadcast Video Production satellites at Scioto and Coffman High Schools, respectively, the IT Academy satellite at Scioto High School and the Academy INC satellite at the McVey Innovative Learning Center in Hilliard, competed in various skill events at the regional competition with 24 advancing to state.

Students advancing to state competition include:

• Nate Adkins (Academy INC, Hilliard Darby) placed first in Banking and Finance

• Victoria Allison (Broadcast Video Production, Dublin Scioto), Grace Hamman (Broadcast Video Production, Dublin Scioto), Rachel Johnson (Broadcast Video Production, Dublin Scioto) and Emily Norris (Broadcast Video Production, Dublin Scioto) placed first in Broadcast News Production Team

• Zach Ayyash (Marketing and Logistics, Dublin Scioto) placed second in Fundamentals of Accounting

• Melany Ayala (Marketing and Logistics, Dublin Scioto), Arely Buentello (Marketing and Logistics, Hilliard Bradley), José Galvan (Marketing and Logistics, Hilliard Darby) and Harmany Shifflet (Marketing and Logistics, Jonathan Alder) placed first in Small Business Management Team

• Ellie Blankenhorn (Broadcast Video Production, Dublin Coffman), Paige Warren (Broadcast Video Production, Dublin Coffman), Abby Vollmer (Broadcast Video Production, Dublin Coffman) and Kylie Young (Broadcast Video Production, Dublin Coffman) placed first in Video Production Team

• Sam Gernstetter (IT Academy, Dublin Scioto) placed first in Java Programming

• Tyler Hunt (Academy INC, Hilliard Bradley) placed first in Fundamentals of Accounting

• Kyle Kohli (Interactive Media, Hilliard Davidson) placed first in Fundamentals of Web Design

• Capell Miller (Academy INC, Hilliard Bradley) placed first in Entrepreneurship

• Jason Orgel (Computer Networking and Support Technology, Hilliard Darby) placed second in Computer Security

• Tash Somani (Academy INC, Hilliard Darby) and AJ VanVoorhis (Academy INC, Hilliard Davidson) placed first in Economic Research Team. They will be joined at state competition by Gabe Simon (Academy INC, Hilliard Davidson), who placed second in Medical Office Procedures

• Janya Tyree (Marketing and Logistics, Hilliard Darby) placed third in Fundamentals of Accounting

• Teresa Wagner (Academy INC, Hilliard Bradley) placed first in Payroll Accounting

BPA is the leading Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for students pursuing careers in business management, office administration, information technology and other related career fields. The Ohio Association is the second largest state association within BPA with approximately 7,200 secondary and postsecondary members.
