Music students perform at OMEA contest

PICKERINGTON — A great day of music.

Recently, some local vocal and instrumental students participated in the annual Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) event held at Pickerington North High School.

Students were given ratings ranging from good to superior for their performances. Musicians in ninth through 12th grades were able to participate.

All London High School soloists and vocal ensembles, received superior ratings. London High School vocal music is under the direction of Tim Tanner.

Vocal soloists included Seth Gillilan, Ruth Peart and Hobbes Treynor.

The ensembles were designated as follows: Ladies Ensemble No. 1 (Sara Madden, Becca Johnson, Danielle Bechtel, Kristen Mercer, Lauren Boyd and Emily Bennett), Ladies Ensemble No. 2 (Ruth Peart, Maddie Martinez, Meghan Baker, Savanah Garverick, Sarah George and Melanie Green), Men’s Ensemble (Seth Gillilan, Aaron Gates, Jerod Coy, Nathan Adkins and Hobbes Treynor) and Mixed Ensemble (Meghan Baker, Tori Bennett, Ruth Peart, Sarah George, Melanie Green, Seth Gillilan, Aaron Gates, Nathan Adkins and Hobbes Treynor).

London instrumentalists, under the direction of first-year director Amanda Tobias, did fine as well. Freshman Emily Bennett (clarinet) and sophomore Julie Adkins (Euphonium) earned superior ratings. Ashley Rickens (saxophone), Nathan Adkins (trombone), Grant Brooks (clarinet), Danielle Bechtel (trumpet) and Andrew Brand (saxophone) each received ratings of excellent.

For West Jefferson High School, Nicole Evans received a superior rating while Nathaniel Dersom and Rachael Brown also received scores from the judges for their various vocal solos. West Jefferson High School vocal director is Rachel Herman.
