I recall a day when I walked into the Ready Room at the airbase. The room contained several females as well as male pilots. The commander was telling a very vulgar story. When he spotted me, he stopped and said, “I’m sorry, Father.” I had the grace to take the opportunity to get him in private and point out that I wasn’t the only one he needed to apologize to. Perhaps it is because women want to be treated as men that such stories are told in mixed company. Of course it is still wrong to tell them even in male only situations. We seem to have lost a sense of respect.

Have you ever wondered why some women dress in a sexy and provocative way? We are told “do not judge a book by its cover,” but if I see a scantily clad female on the cover I am pretty sure I am not going to find the scriptures inside. Are they really selling what they are advertising?

For a woman to look nice for her husband in order to please him is really an act of virtue. For a woman to want to look sexy for other men, well that is something else. A woman who uses her feminine charms to get what she wants from a man isn’t showing respect for the dignity of that man or her own dignity. Consider this story: A man gets on an elevator with a very sexy looking woman. He asks her if she’d sleep with him for a million dollars. She says, “Yes.” Then he asks if she’d sleep with him for $5. She says, “What sort of woman do you think I am?” He replies, we’ve established that, now we are haggling over the price.

Women are getting caught up in the tide of pornography as well as men, but the fact is men are more easily aroused by the images. Today’s fashions have moved away from modesty to revealing Victoria’s Secrets to everyone on National TV. Mothers, who should be concerned about their daughters’ reputations, allow them to dress in “hooker chic” fashions. Feminism is redefining what it means to be a “woman.” It chooses to use their most potent weapon, sexuality.

Women should stop and ask themselves a simple question about their apparel: What is that man who is watching me thinking? Does he see me as Christian woman or as a sexual object of lust? Is it my desire to arouse lust in his heart? Dressing modestly does not mean dressing unattractively. Dressing modestly means you understand what it means to respect yourself and others.
