Taylor graduates from OSUT


Army Pvt. Jedidiah T. Taylor has graduated from One Station Unit Training (OSUT) at the U.S. Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga. The training consisted of basic military training and advanced individual training (AIT).


During basic training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, military customs and courtesies, map reading, tactics, basic rifle marksmanship, physical fitness, field training, and first aid skills. The recruit developed combat skills and handled various weapons available to the infantry soldier.


During AIT, the soldier received instruction to serve as an infantryman/mortarman using light and heavy anti-armor weapons, indirect-fire support, and mechanized operations while assigned to a rifle or mortar squad. The training included weapons qualification, tactics, patrolling, navigation, field communications, and combat operations; engagement in infantry combat exercises, battle drills, land mine locating, neutralizing and extracting, and survival operations during a nuclear, biological or chemical attack.


Taylor is the son of Thomas and Jennifer Taylor, of South Charleston.


He is a 2012 graduate of Northeastern High School, Springfield.


Dillard graduates from CAAIT


Army Pvt. James M. Dillard has graduated from the Chaplain Assistant Advanced Individual Training course at the Chaplain School, Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.


The course emphasized religious support, development of interpersonal skills, and unit ministry support to soldiers and family members. The support training provided services in a battlefield environment and battle fatigue casualty care.


Religious support classes instructed students to prepare altars for Protestant, Catholic, Jewish, and Orthodox worship services, and stressed the importance of being knowledgeable of all faith groups represented in the Army.


Dillard is the son of Gary and Patricia Dillard, of South Charleston. His wife, Abby, is the daughter of Robert and Kathleen Rogers, of Springfield.


He is a 2008 graduate of Northeastern High School in Springfield.


Bowman graduates from basic training


Army Reserve Pvt. Joshua J. Bowman has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.


During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.


Bowman is the son of Jennifer Tincher, of South Charleston, and Jamie Owens, of Murray, Ky.
