Madison County Democrat — Mrs. Anna Miller entertained the following guests at a 6 o’clock dinner, New Years Eve: Mr. and Mrs. Turner, Mr. and Mrs. Oakley, Mrs. Morris Hedrick and Miss Helen Williams.
— The following officers were elected at the First Baptist Sunday School last Sunday morning: Superintendent, Allen Prose; assistant superintendent, Rev. William McDaniels; secretary, Bruce Lewis; assistant secretary, Theodore Woodrow; pianist, Nellie Hedrick; assistant pianist, Don Booth. Church officers were elected also and are as follows; clerk, Quinn Bradley; assistant clerk, Mrs. W. H. Pence; treasurer, Rev. William McDaniels; pianist, Mrs. Woodrow.
— Mrs. Laura McNeal spent New Years with her daughter, Mrs. Elmer Evans, of Columbus.
— Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hardin and daughter, Janet, of Columbus, spent the holidays with the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Martin. (Jacob Martin was mayor of West Jefferson in 1904 and 1905).
The Madison Press, April 12, 1954 — Saturday morning, West Jefferson High Golf team composed of Bob Wagner, Sonny Parsons, Jack McClaskey and Bill Buscemi met the East High School team of Columbus and come our victorious, 14 to 2. Wednesday afternoon a team from West Jefferson made up of Bob Wagner, Lee Holland, Bill Buscemi and Scott Stratton met Springfield High School and went down to defeat with a score of 15 to 1.
— Mrs. Sam Richeson was a guest of the Finesse-A-Bit Bridge Club when it was entertained Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. D. N. Richeson Jr.
— The Senior Class of West Jefferson High School will present its play “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams on Friday, April 23, at 8:15 in the high school auditorium. We believe this is a rather unusual type of play for a high school presentation as it is usually done by colleges and professional groups. Members of the cast are: Jo Ann Ryan, Pat McDaniels, Robert Wagner and Ralph Parsons Jr. The play is directed by Miss Pauline Cochran. Stage managers are Don Long and Don Ater. Ticket chairman is Roy Green. Publicity chairman is Ruth Stanley. Hand props is Dale Thompson and June Graves. Make up is Bill Buscemi and Ruth Stanley.
— West Jefferson High’s baseball team scored a double victory Friday by defeating Bloomingburg, 6 to 2 and Mt. Sterling 11 to 0, in a Madison County Tournament game. In the first game, sophomore, Cecil Evans pitched for West Jefferson, limiting his foes to two hits and fanned 12. Don Long pitched a one-hitter and fanned 9 for West Jefferson. Ray McGuire led the West Jefferson batting attack with 3 hits, 2 triples and a single.
