Another serpentes group of cars will be coming into London.
Like the Cobras, the group of Dodge Vipers will be giving rides for charity in downtown at a summer festival. The Viper Owners Association, Ohio Region, have signed on to bring its show to the London Rib and Jazz Fest, slated for Aug. 7 and Aug. 8.
The organization will bring 25 to 30 Vipers to the event and give rides similar to the Cobra show.
“They will caravan over from the Mopar Nationals at National Trails,” said Tim Wilson, who directs the car show affiliated with the Rib and Jazz Fest.
The Vipers will peel rubber down North Main Street from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 7, with anyone aboard who wants to sit behind a V-10 engine.
The $10 rides will benefit a local charity, the Madison County Health Partners Free Clinic.
The donation of the ride proceeds is welcome, said Melissa Canney, executive director of the free clinic.
“It will be a good thing for uninsured care,” Canney said. “We receive no payment for services. Any donation we receive to help us provide those services is a benefit. It means all the more we can do for these people.”
At about 6:31 p.m., the Vipers will join the car show, which will expand its area again this year.
Wilson said two Corvette clubs will show as groups: the National Road Corvette Club and The Chosen Few Corvette Club. The show area will expand to First Street and stretch from Oak to Union Streets. Nearly 130 cars were shown in 2014.
Voting format will remain the same with show entrants voting in the various categories.
The festival draws about 10,000 people to downtown London to enjoy about 5,000 pounds of ribs and hours of live music. For more information, visit londonribandjazzfest.com.
