The Madison Health Foundation recognized 81 local businesses and civic organizations at its Annual Business Partners Breakfast on Wednesday, June 24.
Corporate Gifts Chair Gary Feliks started the morning by thanking the businesses for their continued support of Madison Health.
“It is our honor to recognize all of you for your constant contributions,” said Feliks. “Your continued support helps promote the organization’s vision to be the healthcare provider of choice for the people who live and work in Madison County and the surrounding area. We realize how many demands there are on your time and your philanthropic dollars and we are grateful that you have chosen Madison Health as a charity worthy of your time and money.”
Foundation President Mike Quilter delivered a heartfelt invocation in memory of former Foundation Executive Director, Mona Flax and Dr. Martha Geib.
“Occasionally, someone enters our lives and makes us a better person for having known them. Mona Flax was one of those people,” said Quilter. “I ask you to remember something she may have said or done that improved our lives, the hospital Foundation and especially our community. Another one of those people was Dr. Martha Geib. Although we have mourned the loss of a healer, leader and friend, we are thankful for having had the opportunity to have her in our lives.”
During the program, Dr. Mitchell Spahn, chairman of the Madison Health Board of Trustees and the medical director of the Battelle Breast Care Center, announced that the existing Breast Cancer Endowment Fund would be renamed the Mona Flax Breast Cancer Endowment Fund in honor of its founder.
The keynote speaker for the breakfast was Dr. Duane Mast. Dr. Mast is the Regional Medical Director for Premier of Team Health, the organization that provides Madison Health’s emergency department physicians. He has been with Premier for 14 years and previously practiced family medicine in West Jefferson. Dr. Mast discussed the hospital’s goal to decrease the “door to doctor” time while maintaining quality patient care and increasing patient satisfaction.
