The pie is cheap, so it must not be any good.

That’s the stigma Little Caesar’s Pizza is trying to beat, and company representatives say never-frozen ingredients, a special blend of mozzarella and Muenster cheeses and dough made fresh each day will prove to patrons that quality pizzas can be sold at budget-friendly prices.

“We put a lot of pride into our pizzas,” said Amanda Parker, marketing manager for the UltraSteak franchise, which opened its London Little Caesar’s location Tuesday at 289 Lafayette St.

The branch is the Fisher, Indiana-based franchise’s 22nd total, and its 10th in the Columbus area. It is also one of just three in the area with a new modern design — guaranteed to appear more contemporary than the city’s last Little Caesar’s located inside the former Kmart store.

About 400 pizzas were given away during a special family and friends sneak-peek initiative from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday evening.

The restaurant has already hired 14 employees and is hoping to hire four or five more, depending on needs. Eventually, the location is expected to do $25,000 in sales per week.

“We think the drive-thru is really going to make this a strong location,” said Parker, adding that the company completed several mapping and traffic studies to select its location.

Known for its “Hot and Ready” $5 pepperoni and cheese pizzas, the restaurant also offers chicken wings, breads and its new Detroit-style deep dish pizza, a homage to the company’s Michigan roots.

The pre-made pizzas are baked and held in a warmer for up to 30 minutes.

“But if we scan it and it says 31 minutes, we won’t sell it,” said Parker.

Instead, the pie is placed in a cooler. Those pizzas are donated to local organizations to assist families in need. Similarly-sized locations donate about 100 pizzas a week, Parker said. The London location is looking for donation sites, she added.

Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The phone number is 740-845-0577.
