It’s officially summer.
The London Public Library’s annual Summer Concert Series is kicking off this week.
The series will open on Friday, June 19, with Deighton Charlemagne. The series will consist of four concerts, all held on Friday afternoons starting at 11:30 a.m. Each concert also features a local business providing free lunches and refreshments to those who attend.
This year’s lineup includes:
• Friday, June 19: Deighton Charlemagne — Deighton is a native of the Caribbean Island of St. Lucia. His musical career began in 1982 on the campus of Ohio University with the formation of the successful reggae group Identity. He has performed throughout the U.S. sharing the stage with acts such as The Clash, Sly & Robbie, King Sunny Aide, and Third World. Takacs Family Ice Cream will be on hand to serve ice cream sandwiches and bottled water. The Friends of the London Public Library will be serving free hot dogs and chips.
• Friday, June 26: SupaFun Band — SupaFun Band is a three-piece (trumpet, trombone/guitar, and sousaphone) roving party band that brings the fun. The group was recently featured on the Good Day Columbus, Fox 28 show featuring Mardi Gras Music. Merchants National Bank will be on hand to serve free hot dogs and refreshments to those who attend.
• Friday, July 10: AW Duo — The AW Duo is comprised of two of Columbus’ favorite musicians. Amber Knicole and Walter K’s experience as members of one of the city’s premier bands, MojoFlo, has given them a distinct advantage in providing live musical entertainment for a variety of events and audiences. The Madison Senior Living Community will provide boxed lunches to those who attend.
• Friday, July 24: Arnett Howard — A musical legend in central Ohio, Arnett will feature a variety of Creole funk sounds and rhythms from Motown and New Orleans. Arnett’s energy and musicianship have made him perhaps the best-known entertainer in the region. The Bluebird Retirement Community will provide boxed lunches to those who attend.
All of the concerts will be held on the library’s back lawn. If there is a chance of inclement weather the concert will be moved indoors.
