A benefit Chili and Cake Cookoff will be held Saturday, Oct. 21 at the Daily Needs Assistance in Plain City to benefit the Plain City Food Pantry, Hopes Lantern and Daily Needs Assistance. The event is 2-5 p.m., with prizes awarded at 4 p.m.
The event is at 340 W. Main St., the old elementary school.
Hopes Lantern goes into the local elementary and brings a nutritional meal for kids who may not have one over the weekends and they help many families with shoes, clothes, coats and even utilities.
The food pantry helps with food for several hundred families. Daily Needs Assistance, helps with taxable items monthly at a community dinner, it has a “kids kloset” that is from birth to teens and they have mentor programs and a Lift program where a retired teacher has the kids from 3-6 every day, tutoring them and helping with school studies. It has a CPR room that does family benefit assistance for food stamps and housing, taxes, budget counseling, cooking classes, pregnancy care center, and more.
“The many businesses in Plain City have given generously to the prize baskets and the mayor and council members have jumped in to help with the event from buying the food to volunteering,” said spokesperson Missy Davis. “We would love to invite the community to come in a spirit of community unity.”
