Mount Sterling Village Council voted Monday night on a motion to terminate the contract of village administrator John Martin. The vote was 3-2 in favor of the motion.

The motion to terminate was made by councilwoman Rebecca Burns at the conclusion of the finance report portion of the meeting.

Burns said the villages finance committee met last Friday, and started to go over the budget. “As a result of Friday’s meeting, and with the recommendation of the finance committee, I motion to terminate John Martin as our village administrator.”

There was no discussion of the motion and no explanation on why Martin was being terminated before the 3-2 vote. Voting to terminate the administrator’s contract were council members Burns, Diane Spradlin and David Timmons. Voting no were council members Jim Davis and Mary Lou Stiverson-Ratliff.
