Lilly Chapel holds Homecoming celebration

The Trinity United Methodist Church of Lilly Chapel held its 34th annual Homecoming Saturday, “130 Years — Rock of Ages” at the church on Lilly Chapel-Georgesville Road.

The celebration began with the annual Homecoming Parade that featured local artist Mary Andrix as the Grand Marshal. The 94-year-old moved to Lilly Chapel when she was a child, and has lived in the community for almost all her life.

A graduate of Fairfield School, she also attended Ohio State University before joining the WAVES (the women’s Naval Reserve branch at the start of World War II). Her brothers were also serving in the military at the time. When her service ended in 1947, she married Jim Andrix and they remained in the Madison County community.

Also taking part in the parade were the Madison-Plains High School Golden Eagles Marching Band, a number of local civic groups and organizations, and state Sen. Bob Hackett.

During the day there were a number of activities, including a kiddie tractor pull, a corn hole tournament, auctions, baked sales and handicrafts through the length of the event.
