Funding is for fishing programs

Staff report

West Jefferson will have several educational programs for the rest of the fall and next summer, thanks to a grant.

On Monday, the village approved appropriating $3,830 in grant money from the Ohio Department of Resources for fishing events in 2017 and 2018. The grant is for aquatic education, specifically to support sport fishing and encouraging young people to learn about taking care of fish and other wildlife.

The money will cover some past events too, such as Something’s Fishy in July and a portion of the National Night Out which took place Aug. 1.

Upcoming events include Senior Fishing Fun on Sept. 9, Family Fishing Fiesta on Sept. 19 and Fishing with Mom and Dad, which is scheduled for next year on June 16.
