They pedaled with all their might, driving straight — mostly — down the marked lane toward the finish line more than 20 feet from the start.
Each of the nearly 50 children who took part Saturday in the annual Central Ohio Young Farmers Pedal Pull at the Madison County Fair gave it their all. Win or lose, they were all winners because they all had fun.
After winning his class in the first pulls, Nolan Horney stood proudly with his first place trophy alongside fellow competitors Sam Willing and Brynlee Wolverton. Throughout the competition, winners were announced and trophies given out by the many volunteers immediately after each competition was completed.
And the competition was fierce.
As the competitors waited their turn in the class, announcer Mary Griffith, Ohio State University Extension Educator for Madison County invited each of the children to sit on the tractor and get ready to pedal their way down to the finish line. A large crown at the Sheep Arena cheered on all the kids, with many parent and grandparent taking pictures as they pedaled their way to the finish line.
Winners in each of the class groups were:
First Place — Nolan Horney
Second Place — Sam Willing
Third Place — Brynlee Wolverton
