There were no injures Tuesday evening in a Union Township house fire, but it caused extensive damage to the home near Madison Correctional.
According to Chief Brian Bennington, Central Township Joint Fire District received a call at around 8:22 p.m. about a fire at 919 State Route 56, near London. Bennington said that initial reports mentioned a fan blowing flames.
Along with crews from London, West Jefferson, Pleasant Valley and Pleasant townships in Franklin and Clark counties, they were able to put out the fire in about two hours. Most of the damage appear to be the western side of the home, facing Route 56.
A woman and her four children safely escaped the building due to warnings from functioning smoke detectors. Her husband wasn’t home.
Central Township investigators were seen still investigating the scene Wednesday morning. Bennington said the incident is still under investigation.
