Case dismissed for woman found dead near Mt. Sterling

A court case was dismissed Monday in Fayette County for a 26-year-old woman who was found dead last Thursday near Mount Sterling.

The woman, identified as Kelsey J. Maynard, was found on the side of State Route 323 SE, about 8 miles west of the village. A cause of death has not been released. Her parents reportedly said it was not unusual for her to walk in the area.

Maynard was scheduled to appear in Fayette County Common Pleas Court on Monday for a hearing on a motion for Intervention in Lieu of Conviction (ILC).

Maynard was in a car in the Washington Court House Walmart parking lot last May when she overdosed and was brought back to life with Narcan, according to court records. She was later indicted on a charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony.

According to the Fayette County Adult Probation Department, Maynard had been clean on drug screens since last May and a report had been drafted for Monday’s hearing recommending to the court that Maynard be placed into the ILC program.

Maynard was found fully clothed and no obvious signs of trauma or a struggle were detected, according to Sheriff Jim Sabin. She was last seen at home around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening.

Anyone with information concerning Maynard is requested to contact the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 740-852-1332.
