London Silver Cornet Band will present a concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, July 19 at the Madison County Historical Society Museum in London.
The featured music will be from the year of 1865 including Civil War era tunes such as “The Battle Hymn of the Republic” and “When Johnnie Comes Marching Home.”
Director Thomas Lloyd will read news items which appeared in the the London newspapers from 150 years ago. The concert will be outside so those attending may wish to bring lawn chairs. In case of rain, the concert will be inside the museum.
The London town band was formed in 1855. The founding director served in the Civil War and performed with the band of the 110th Ohio Volunteer Infantry here in London in early July 1865.
Thomas Lloyd began conducting the community band in 1982 when the band began performing under the name of the London Silver Cornet Band. Three of the original members from 1982 continue to play.
The entrance to the parking lot is on East First Street.
