A Mount Sterling man was found dead of a gunshot wound early Thursday morning, July 16 on Columbus Street in Mount Sterling, according to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
Joseph Scott Sagar, 28, was found deceased by deputies in the backyard of a property at 84 E. Columbus St.
Deputies found the body after responding to a robbery call at 2:45 a.m. from resident Arica Blunt. The robbery situation involved her father, Joseph Blunt, who resides in the rear of the property.
Sagar was Blunt’s nephew.
The investigation is ongoing, according to Madison County Sheriff Jim Sabin. The Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation is assisting.
Sagar’s body has been transported the Montgomery County Morgue. An autopsy is pending.
Deputies are conducting interviews and continue to collect evidence to determine the elements which led to the shooting, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Incidents like this are a rare occurrence in Madison County,” Sabin said.
But when they do happen, Sabin said law enforcement must be ready to act.
