The Union County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society held its June meeting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 20 at the Ohio Historical Connection in Columbus.

Liz Plummer, manager of Research Services of the Museum and Library Services Division of the Ohio History Connection, formerly the Ohio Historical Society, gave a behind the scenes tour to 11 members who braved the inclement weather.

The group observed where the closed stacks of materials are kept and how they are stored in a temperature-controlled climate. They have many boxes of historical documents, including a picture album of President Warren Harding.

The organization will collect and catalog any historical documents, pictures or items that anyone doesn’t know what to do with.

Plummer also demonstrated how to use the online catalog to access newspapers, Ohio death certificates from December 1908-1963 and manuscripts, birth records and other archives. Many stayed after the tour and did research.

Those braving the weather were: Nancy Katzenbach, Nina Boerger, Lynn Baldwin, Nina Lee Hampton, Jean A. Jerew, Dave and Leona Gustafson, Bill Thompson, Marie Bouic and John H. and Patria Hoskins.

There will be no meeting in July. The August meeting will be held on Aug. 15 with Hope Rigle on Underground Railroad Quilts at 10 a.m. at the library. All are invited.

Submitted by Marie Bouic, the recording secretary for Union County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society.
