It is true that this calendar time was a pagan holiday time. During this time of celebration, the Romans would set their slaves free for this period of festivities. The slaves, many who were also Christian, decided that they would take this time of freedom and celebrate Christ’s birth. That is the main reason that our Christmas and the pagan holiday coincide with each other.
