Two men have been arrested, and charged in the beating of another man at about 1:45 a.m. Friday in the 1200 block of Coles Boulevard in Portsmouth. Eric L. Thomas, age 27, and Rodney R. Johnson II were both arrested and charged with felonious assault a felony of the second degree.

Portsmouth Police Department Operations Captain Lynn Brewer said officers received a report of a man having been severely beaten by two male subjects. Officers arrived at the scene and found Lee Wyckoff, 56, of Portsmouth, suffering from numerous head, facial and body wounds that he had apparently suffered from the beating. Wyckoff was transported to the emergency room at Southern Ohio Medical Center for treatment while officers continued the investigation.

Thomas and Johnson were transported to the Scioto County Jail for arraignment in Portsmouth Municipal Court Friday morning. Second degree felonious assault carries a penalty of up to eight years in prison and a fine of up to $20,000.

Brewer said the investigation is continuing and police are asking anyone who may have information regarding the assault to contact the Portsmouth Police Department at 740-353-4101 or 740-354-1600.
