A Hillsboro man has been arrested after allegedly removing a motorized cart and driving it to Highland District Hospital to watch television, according to the Hillsboro Police Department.

Wednesday evening the police department said it responded to HDH on a report of a male riding a motorized cart in the hospital lobby. It was determined that Russell E. Smith, 51, took a motorized, handicap cart from Kmart without permission and drove it to the HDH emergency room to watch television in the lobby, the police department said.

Hillsboro Police Chief Todd Whited said his department has arrested Smith a few times lately for public intoxication and offenses like that. He said a cut above Smith’s right eye came from about a week ago when he fell and hit his head at Flagway.

Smith was arrested without incident and was transported to the Highland County Justice Center. He was being held Friday on a $1,000 bond on charges of receiving stolen property and a probation violation.
