A London man will spend a year in prison for pandering child pornography, following sentencing in Madison County Common Pleas Court on Friday.
Claude E. Kirk, 66, pleaded guilty in March to six counts of exchanging sexual material involving a minor via his home computer between December 2012 and April 2013.
Franklin County deputies who investigate Internet crimes against children said Kirk downloaded more than 200 pornographic images from shared files to his laptop during the four-month period. No local children were pictured or victimized.
However, assistant county prosecutor Nick Adkins said all victims were identified through the National Center For Missing & Exploited Children.
Kirk insisted the download was an accidental, one-time occurrence as he installed the Windows 8 operating system on his laptop.
But Judge Eamon Costello said analysis by computer experts at the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation showed otherwise. He said both Windows 7 and 8 were used to pull images from the Internet several times during the four months.
In addition to the prison time, Costello ordered Kirk classified as a Tier II sex offender with mandatory reporting requirements for 25 years.
In other common pleas court action on Friday:
• Amy L. Sias, 23, of London, was sentenced to 30 days of house arrest with electronic monitoring and two years of community control for forging a $386 check at the city’s Kroger, 230 Lafayette St., in October. She was also ordered to repay the store.
Sias, who was on probation for misdemeanor theft in October, pleaded guilty in March to the forgery charge.
• Jerri L. Hollan, 36, of Middletown, was sentenced to a year in prison for smuggling drugs into London Correctional Institution on April 29, 2013. Costello delayed the start of Hollan’s sentence until June 23.
