A 26-year-old Washington C.H. man arrested for trafficking heroin on Feb. 23 was arrested again Friday night following a reported drug overdose.
At 9:41 p.m. Friday, Washington C.H. Police and Fayette County EMS were called to 1110 Campbell St. on a drug overdose. Shane M. Cooper was found in a rear bedroom with two hypodermic needles nearby, according to reports.
Family members told police that they found Cooper, who wasn’t breathing and was unconscious. They reportedly began CPR, which revived Cooper.
Cooper was transported to Fayette County Memorial Hospital. After he was treated, he was arrested by the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on a grand jury indictment from the Feb. 23 incident. He was indicted for trafficking in heroin and possession of heroin, both fourth-degree felonies.
On Feb. 23, Sheriff’s Office deputies executed a search warrant at 7 p.m. at 1110 Campbell St. following a covert drug investigation into the trafficking of heroin. Cooper was the only person arrested during the search.
“At the time the search warrant was executed, Cooper was located inside the residence and taken into custody without incident,” said Stanforth. “Shortly after deputies entered the home, Cooper began experiencing some medical issues and was transported under guard of a deputy to the Fayette County Memorial Hospital by Fayette County E.M.S.”
Sheriff’s detectives searched the home and seized items of evidence, including a substance that was tested and found to be heroin, drug paraphernalia items, and a vehicle registered to Cooper, which detectives intend to file a seizure action against.
Along with the indictment, Cooper has been charged with possession of drug abuse instruments from Friday’s incident.
Cooper is being held in the Fayette County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
