The West Jefferson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating a one-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 4 on U.S. Route 40 east of milepost 15 in Madison County.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver, Jason M. Morris, 35, of West Jefferson, was eastbound on U.S. Route 40 just east of the village of West Jefferson when his vehicle traveled left of center into the westbound lanes of travel, then left of north side of the roadway and struck a utility pole.
Dr. James Kaehr, Madison County Coroner, was on scene, and pronounced Mr. Morris deceased. Alcohol and/or drug use is unknown at this time.
The crash remains under investigation by the West Jefferson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Notification of next of kin has been made.
Officers of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, West Jefferson Police Department, Jefferson Township Fire Department and the Ohio Investigative Unit assisted with the investigation.
