A former employee of the Target Distribution Center near West Jefferson was sentenced on Friday, Jan. 10, to 20 days in jail for stealing merchandise from the retailer last summer.
Sean R. Osborne, 23, of Galloway, pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of misdemeanor theft as part of a plea bargain with the prosecutor’s office. Osborne was indicted in October on one count of felony theft.
Madison County Common Pleas Judge Eamon Costello suspended 10 days of the jail time and gave Osborne credit for four days already served. He also gave Osborne 90 days to pay court costs associated with the case.
Earlier this month, Costello denied a request by defense attorney Brian Joslyn for mental health treatment for Osborne. Joslyn said his client is an addicted gambler who stole to support his habit.
Osborne was convicted of stealing less than $1,000 in electronics from the Target warehouse between June 15 and July 6, 2013.
In other common pleas court action on Monday, Jan. 13, Brittany Nicole Coffey, 20, of London, pleaded guilty to possessing a fake prescription for Oxycodone at Ernie’s Medicine Shoppe, 54 W. High St., in the city on July 26, 2013.
Coffey faces up to 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine for the fourth-degree felony conviction. However, she is likely to be placed on community control, pending the results of a pre-sentence investigation.
Costello set sentencing for March 7.
