Tangible benefits of the Ohio Cobra Club’s annual show and fundraiser, held each June in conjunction with London’s Strawberry Festival, were evident at the Nov. 21 city council meeting.

Club officers were on hand to present $1,000 checks each to the London police and fire departments, as well as a $500 check to the Madison County D.A.R.E. Program.

A $50,000 check went to the club’s primary beneficiary, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

“We want to show appreciation for what London has done for us,” said club president Rod Pierce.

The show draws thousands of auto enthusiasts and as many as 250 vehicles to London each year. Pierce said attendees come from all over the United States and Canada. Last year, one came from Australia.

Club members raffle a Shelby Cobra annually and provide rides on Main Street in the iconic race cars to raise money.

The 2014 Strawberry Festival and Cobra Show is scheduled for June 26-28.
