The late Pam Garrett would be proud.
The Madison-Plains school district resident, who possessed a passion for the Scholastic Boosters Club, passed away in the midst of planning for this year’s auction, held March 2.
It went on as scheduled and continued its mission of raising funds for Madison-Plains High School seniors, who intend to attend college.
Sheri Meier, co-chair with Garrett reported the auction was “very successful.” The total amount raised was $15,000. Of that amount, approximately $13,500 was raised by way of the auction and the remainder through a TV raffle.
The traditional hickory nut cake auction lot cycled through sale-donation-resale a dozen times. When the gavel fell for the final time and the cake was devoured, it had raised nearly $3,000.
Meier said more than 50 baskets — with some holding “very impressive” contents — brought in significant dollars. Other major ticket items included: a two-night stay in Enchanted Acres, Hocking Hills; Cuisinart cookware; a gas grill; and a professional football autographed by the Cleveland Browns.
“The buyers at this year’s auction received some really good bargains,” Meier said.
“I definitely believe Pam was very proud of the way the community came together to support the continuing pursuit of education by the students of Madison-Plains.”
