JOHNSON
Harold C. “Curly” Johnson, 86, of Ostrander, died Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Heartland of Marysville with his family at his side following an extended illness.
A longtime farmer, Harold was employed with The Scotts Company for many years and formerly worked as a finish carpenter with Larry Johnson Construction.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a veteran of World War II.
Harold was a lifetime member of VFW Post No. 3320 and a member of Scotts Twenty Year Club.
He was an extremely hard working man who was completely devoted to his wife and family. He will be remembered for his orneriness and for always keeping busy.
He was born May 28, 1926, in Delaware, to the late O.C. and Ethel Leila Dennis Johnson.
He was also preceded in death by his stepmother, Mary Catherine Johnson; a grandson, Adam Lake; a granddaughter-in-law, Michelle Salyers; two sisters, Lucille Kurtzman and Lois Ungaschick; and four brothers, Fred, Glenn, Chet, and Paul Johnson.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ruth Eileen Johnson, to whom he was married on Nov. 24, 1946, at the Unionville Center United Methodist Church; his six children, Jan “Susie” (Tom) Kocher of Bucyrus, Jean (Gary) Salyers of Marysville, Mary (Mark) Miller of Westerville, Sharon Lake of Hilliard and Joe Johnson and Bob Johnson, each of Ostrander; nine grandchildren, Cindy (Rob Perry) Kocher, Tim (Amy) Kocher, Christina (John) Gladden, Keith Salyers, Marc Miller, Adam (Maggie) Miller, Jared Miller, Danielle (Aaron) Lake Diver, and Nicole “Nikki” Damron; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Angus and Helen Timms, each of Delaware; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, March 2, at MANNASMITH FUNERAL HOME, 621 W. Fifth St., Marysville, where the funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2013. Reverend Brian Brooks will be officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Union County Honor Guard and Taps played by his grandson, Jared Miller, will take place at Unionville Center Cemetery.
