Dave Metzger now will wear two hats for the Village of West Jefferson.
Metzger, who recently was hired as the village’s public service director, was named the parks and recreation department director during Monday night’s village council meeting.
As the public service director, Metzger will make $64,688 annually. As the head of the parks and recreation department, he will make $12,577.44 annually.
Metzger thanked council Monday night for having the faith in him that he can do both jobs well simultaneously.
Mayor Darlene Steele applauded council for approving Metzger as the new parks and rec director. She said she believes he will move the department in a positive direction.
“I have spoken with Dave considerably about what we think needs to be done at the parks and rec department,” she said. “He has some great ideas and I see him being more active and involved in the community than we have been in the past.
“We have discussed several different plans that will make our parks and rec department more friendly for people of all ages. I think you are going to see a lot more activity than you have ever seen before.
“Dave has shown himself to be an outstanding go-getter,” Steele added. “He has a list of good ideas. Let’s give him a chance to see what he can do.”
Councilman Cory Coburn did question whether having one person serving as the head of two departments is a concern.
“I’m wondering if there will be a time conflict,” he said. “Maybe I’m wrong. We’ll have to see.”
Council approved the appointment 5-0.
