Travis

Roberta Travis, 97, of West Jefferson, passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, in Sisters of London.

She was born Sept. 10, 1915, in Johnson County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Alex Pelphery Sr. and Elizabeth Castle Pelphrey.

Roberta was a member of the West Jefferson Community Free Will Baptist Church and taught Sunday School for 45 years.

She is survived by her children, Norma (Ralph) Conti of Pinellas Park, Florida, Donald (Jo) Travis of West Jefferson, Arnold (Toni) Travis of London, Eileen (John) Calegan of Bataratia, Louisiana; daughter-in-law, Maria Travis of Delaware; 20 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren; 16 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Elmer (Lucille) Pelphrey of West Jefferson; several nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jay Travis; children, Mary Banner Travis, Doris Ann Travis, William Frances Travis; three brothers, Elvin Pelphrey, Alex Pelphrey Jr., Dick Pelphrey; two sisters, Bertha Conley, Betty Estep.

Family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 11, in the RADER-McDONALD FUNERAL HOME, 1355 W. Main St., West Jefferson. Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, in the Community Free Will Baptist Church of West Jefferson. Rev. Jerry Newman will be officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
